Day 2: Saturday, June 11, 2005
Roseburg to Portland

Beep! Beep! Beep!
What the blazes?  The room above has an alarm going off.
Evidently no one is up there.  5:00AM for 90 minutes.  Poop!
Out of the room by 8:15.  A bit of continental breakfast
and on the road by 8:25
67.1 / 25,522 / 8:28

Its cool and overcast.  Hey, its Oregon!

Almost immediately, I pass over a bridge and notice
a pretty lake on the right.
I stop and take some photos.  No hurry today,
I've covered most of my distance yesterday.

Umpqua River and dam and a stone fish.
71.8 / 25,526 / 8:35 to 8:40

Its cold and I don't spend too much time.
Anxious to get on up the road.

Okay, I finally made a few miles.  Time for a rest stop.
120.4 / 25,575 / 9:24 to 9:45

As I pulled in, there is a little trailer with coffee.
Boy, that sounded good.
Was run by volunteers from "Bikers for Jesus"
Two nice fellows, we talked for some time and then
linked arms and they blessed my bike.

Fuel stop at Coburn
141.6 / 25,597 / 10:08
Next stop is Santiam Rest Area
42.0 / 25,640 / 10:50 to 11:05

Sun is starting to pop through and there's actually some
warmth in it although it is Oregon after all.

Always alert, I pick up a travel tip:
Be sure to visit the rest room BEFORE the tour bus
pulls in.  And, it's better not to need to use the
women's rest room.

Just about ten miles before arriving at Heidi and Russ'
I run into some light rain.
But, I've gotten here safe and sound and
none the less for the wear.
106.4 / 25,703 / 12:12 / 64 degrees
181 miles for the day, about 3 hours and 45 minutes
686 miles for the trip, about 14 hours and 45 minutes
